I understand virtually none of the marketing-business gobbledegook* in the PR in Luke’s post. Nonetheless, I am curious why it has taken Pepsi (and Coke) 100 years to realize that vertical integration with bottlers might make sense. What has changed about the industry recently? Anything other than the respective financial strength of the product companies and the bottlers?
